STATEMENT / CV

Artist Lisa M Fiori

ARTIST STATEMENT

My main approach is openness, spontaneity, intuitive. Instead of "going after something", I leave room for "what may show up" along the way. There is definitely some technique and skill involved, but nevertheless I never exactly know what may come to the surface. Of course, nature and its intense elements, colours, forms and atmosphere have an affect on me and thereby onto the piece I am working on.

I like keeping my art space in a kind of "organised clutter". In this way, I keep things open, inviting the subject of the piece to invite itself. I see myself as an artist as well as a craftsman, with a spiritual twist. Spiritual, in the sense of nature and the soul meeting and manifesting onto the surface.

My art process has taken on a mixed media approach, using lots of different materials. I like to mix things .. collage, papers, textures, sand, gold & silver leaf and sometimes smaller objects. Recently, I have made some art pieces in deep box frames with vintage family photographs, papers, text and smaller objects. I call these "memory boxes".

Over the years, I have enjoyed taking photographs wherever I go. If a mood, a setting somehow "grabs me" I pick up my camera. It might be on a beach walk noticing an unusual piece of driftwood, how the water glistens, beautiful marks in the sand, interiors, a random figure. Everything depends on the moment.

In the final pieces, I hope the viewer will take time to stop, look and feel and thereby gain a personal experience through the art piece.
